What is Dolby vision?
For Cinematographers, colorists, and filmmakers, preserving the creative intent of their work across different devices and platforms can be a significant concern. Despite working with color-calibrated and accurate monitors, the worry of images appearing vastly different from the intended look on other devices and platforms is ever-present. It's disheartening to see one's work not translate as intended, and ensuring it does is an ongoing challenge. Dolby Vision's use of dynamic metadata has addressed the challenge of preserving creative intent across different devices and platforms. With Dolby Vision, the problem of inconsistent display of images is effectively solved.
Dolby Vision is a set of technologies developed by Dolby Laboratories for high dynamic range (HDR) video. It covers content creation, distribution, and playback. Dolby Vision includes dynamic metadata that adjusts each video frame's brightness, color, and sharpness to match the display color volume (i.e., the maximum and minimum brightness capability and the color gamut). It allows the creative intents to be preserved on all Dolby Vision compatible displays.
